This year also marks my 15th year of chasing. So far my total of chases stands at 132. This includes 19 chases were I went after snowstorms.
This season was filled with something new, I had chase partners. One welcome addition was my daughter, hopefully she will pick up the hobby.
The year started off with a snowchase in February. This one was a double whammy. It came in two waves. The daylight wave brought 35 mph winds and about 6 inches of snow. The nighttime wave brought and additional 7 inches of snow.
Now on to the storm chases. March brought one storm with nickel size hail. April had some non-severe storms which my daughter and I sat on the front porch to watch.
May brought 3 chases, one I had to miss because of work and the speed of the storms. The main culprit was high winds and heavy rain.
June was the busiest month with 6 chases. The best one this month was on the 8th, where pea size hail occurred along with strong winds of 50 mph.
The last and best storm so far this season was in august. This storm had various areas of rotation and estimated winds of 65-70 mph.
Now for the winter season. On December 9, an ice storm occurred. Total ice accumulations totaled about ¾ inch. That's was enough to cancel schools throughout the area.
And finally on December 16, we had our first snowstorm/blizzard. Snowfall totals were 8 inches with 3 foot drifts. This also closed many schools in the area.
Next year will be even better. I'm hopeing all my equipment will be either upgraded or working properly. In 2008, I will be able to fully document all my chases blogs, even bust days will be documented.
In the next few weeks I will be listing my top chases and other various information. So barring any other storms in November and a snowchase in December this will be it until next April.
